First things first: Secret Santa Sign Ups are still underway.
Okay, now we can start. Wow, I haven't done one of these in a while. I haven't even really been around in a while. Things have been kinda crappy! They still are, granted, but it's sort of stabilized for the time being. Expected crappiness is easier to deal with than constant surprise crappiness. Anyway, said real life crappiness put into perspective my recent fictional malaise, and after a few false starts this month, I finally settled back into a rhythm. Technically speaking, my narrative hasn't been as polished or tight as I'd like, but given that I basically haven't written anything of substance since August, I think I'm doing okay. I could do better. (Scratch that, I will do better.) Still, any improvement is improvement.
In short, I'm sticking around and none of mine are going anywhere. So now, to the meat of this all...

PETER PARKER The Amazing Spider-Man DOB: 12 Aug Age: 31 Since 14 Apr 2009 ![]() |
Between Pepper's and Mary Jane's disappearances, Pete is not a happy camper. Whatsoever. He's depressed as hell, but since this isn't his first time losing his wife, he's more equipped to handle this particular disappearance than he has in the past, mostly because some part of him was expecting it anyway. He's emotionally raw to the point that he doesn't feel much of anything at all, which means he's not as hostile as he's been in the past so much as... Apathetic. He's going through the motions, 'cause he doesn't have any fucks left to give. But. There are developments on the horizon! He's the Science Guy in Coraline's Out of Phase plot, which is giving him a concrete something to work on with immediately applicable results. That will be extremely helpful. There's Manhattan in December, wherein I will try to restrain myself and not EP him every day. Though, not gonna lie, he'll probably end up getting at least two during that plot, 'cause MANHATTAN. He got roped into reading Bob Cratchit's lines for the A Christmas Carol performance, which will help him cope with MJ's disappearance a little. (Sidebar: in canon, he ends up doing stand-up comedy for one night after he thought MJ was dead, just because MJ said she thought he'd be good at it; he bombed horribly, but it was still a turning point.) And there are some interesting (and surprising!) new connections, as well, with Valkyrie and Coulson, the latter of whom he does not trust whatsoever which means I want moar Coulson, because it's not a side of Pete I get to play too often anymore. Valkyrie is especially interesting, not only because of the Jessica connection, but that he clicked with her very quickly. I've said it before, but while Pete's easy enough to throw at people, he doesn't make connections very easily; I suspect that's why his core cast always ends up reverting to what it was back in the 70s, no matter how many new characters they introduce. He likes what's familiar. So it's exciting that he's got new people he's sparking with, for lack of a better word. His thread with Jan was likewise interesting just because he was fully expecting her not to like him, based on a previous experience, but then she was sweet and delightful, and just... I LOVE JANET VAN DYNE, YOU GUYS. There's also some darker plots on the horizon, but details aren't set in stone yet and not all of 'em are for me to share anyway, so I'll talk about 'em at a later date. Also, he may consider joining the IPD at some point in the near future. What I Want For Christmas: More threads with the regulars, natch, since Peter needs his old friends, more threads with BRUCE, Valkyrie, Coulson, and Jan, and just... More friends in general. I'd likewise, love, love, LOVE some more immediate canonmates, guys like Luke Cage and Flash Thompson and Johnny Storm and Sue Richards. I'm behind on Scarlet Spider, but Kaine could likewise be interesting, even if they'd probably rarely interact. |

JAMIE MADROX X-Factor DOB: 07 Sep Age: 33 Since 06 Jul 2009 ![]() |
Jamie is currently in the process of getting married at Marvel Thanksgiving. He technically first proposed back in January, so it's not as much of a whim as it seems, but seeing all these colleagues turning up single kinda lit a fire under his butt. So... that would be the biggest development at the moment. Mostly 'cause he's lost so many people in the past few months that I've had to gloss over it for the sake of my own sanity. Sean and Meredith going hit him especially hard, and he may yet have a delayed reaction to it, but of all mine who suffered major losses recently, he's the best one at compartmentalizing so I could push that to the backburner as to not overdose on angst. All of mine are so depressed right now that if I don't have them take turns, it's just not gonna go well for me. Relatedly, I had a Kevin Smith movie marathon last week and realized how much he really missed Brodie. He needs someone like that back in his life, but no one really jumps out at me. In other news, he's pulling together a reading for A Christmas Carol, which will get a gathering post on the 2nd. Next year, he's gonna finally put on his full production of 12 Angry Men. I might upload a copy of the movie to the comm when I'm ready to do that; it's not the kind of movie that really lends itself to a group watch, but it's such a phenomenal piece of cinema that everyone should get a chance to see it. What I Want For Christmas: More threads, period. I like throwing Jamie at completely random people since that's what X-Factor is really about, but I'd likewise enjoy it if he started making more significant connections again. In terms of canonmates, I'd love for ANY X-Factor folks to make their to the Island, but think someone like Quicksilver or Terry or Rictor and Shatterstar would be most interesting. |

BUCKY BARNES Captain America DOB: 26 Mar Age: 87 Since 06 Oct 2010 ![]() |
Bucky's coping. He's probably suffered the most from my absence, as I kinda let some of his emotional plotlines drop a bit in favour of not wanting to depress myself out of writing, but he's still coping. He's making do. It's what he does, especially since he's now been on the Island for two years now. There'll be an ITF gathering post on the 8th, most likely, for them to play a rousing game of Capture the Flag, thanks to a suggestion from Coulson/Dawn. I need to sit down and figure out the best way to implement this, but it should be fun and maybe encourage folks to tag around a bit more in those posts. (I was equally guilty of this the last time, but I couldn't handle more than three threads at that point in the month.) Beyond that, I'm looking into creating another small-scale plot for next year, once I find time to rewatch the movie whose plot I'm planning to What I Want For Christmas: SAM. WILSON. C'mon, guys, gimme a Sam. He's back on the Avengers! He'll be in a movie! He's played by Anthony Mackie! He's awesome. More threads with Steve and Jason, more threads with Jan and Coulson and Wolverine and Bones, threads with new folks and young folks who push him out of his comfort zone. Threads! |

MATT MURDOCK Daredevil DOB: 26 Nov Age: 35 Since 28 Mar 2011 ![]() |
Had a birthday yesterday. Holy crap, Matt's 35. He also thinks he's maybe going insane thanks to Fear Plot! The best of birthday gifts. Manhattan is going to be interesting for him, because it really just ties into this whole... 'I'm going insane and none of this actually happening' motif. I think I'm in need of rereading some Bendis-era Daredevil, though, 'cause much as I love Waid's take on the character, Matt was really a different beast six years ago, and I think I'm letting the new stuff influence me too much. I'd like to EP him on the 1st, but I'd likewise like to EP Pete on the first, so I don't know, we'll see. I could EP both separately, I guess? Is that... doable? I'm not sure. I'd just do a joint thing, but they're gonna have significantly different tones, so I don't want to mix-and-match in this instance. Not much else to say on this front, honestly. He's the last one I'll be making reqs for this month -- just needs one more tag a piece for his open threads -- which means I'm gonna hit the floor running in December. What I Want For Christmas: Moar threads with Ellen, and basically... More friends? I think him and Kevin Flynn had an interesting connection the last time they threaded, same with Kirk, and I wouldn't mind exploring those as potential friendships. But really... the dude just needs more connections, because almost everyone he was friends with disappeared in the past two months, which kinda fucked him up and lends credence to his insanity theory. So. But canonmates for him, too. Luke Cage (again), Danny Rand, and Jessica Jones, especially, as I assume no one would ever app Foggy Nelson, even though they should, because Foggy is beyond awesome. |

THOR ODINSON Thor DOB: A Thursday Age: 1000+ Since 19 May 2011 ![]() |
Still threading out Loki's fear plot. Still (quietly) coping with Jane's disappearance. Will probably get an EP in December where he's trying out all the new Midgardian food. Scheduled to sing drunken karaoke with Tony at some point in the near future. Thor's someone I don't really plan for, 'cause the character doesn't really lend himself to planning, but I wouldn't mind coming up with some kind of plot for him in the new year, maybe to coincide with the release of the new movie. What I Want For Christmas: Lady Sif and the Warriors Three. Don't know if any of them have enough canon presence in the MCU to be appable, but still, a girl can dream. Other than that, more threads with Avengers and just... More threads in general. I wouldn't mind to find someone who could fill in as a Selvig or Darcy type, honestly, but not sure who'd be good for that sort of thing. |

CHARLES XAVIER X-Men: First Class DOB: 02 Mar Age: 30 Since 02 Jul 2011 ![]() |
Got stabbed by Wolverine! That was fun. He's still recovering (and probably will for the next couple of months, 'cause... Well, it was a significant wound). He is also running for Council, which I hadn't actually intended on doing for another term, but then I didn't get around to putting together a graceful declination and having him just default wasn't in character, so I sucked it up and wrote something rushed while I was exhausted. Whoo. That was a run-on sentence. If he does get elected, I have some vague ideas for how he'll spend his term, but I'm not going to get ahead of myself. (If he doesn't get elected, they are actually the same ideas, but that is beside the point.) I always forget how much I like to write Charles until I am actually writing Charles, but he doesn't really lend himself well to EPs because his daily routine is pretty damn boring. So I'm going to make an effort to tag him around more, and maybe do a rewatch since I haven't done that in a while. In terms of Manhattan, he'll enjoy the trip to what he'll perceive as 'the future'. Should be fun! What I Want For Christmas: Weirdly enough, there aren't any XMFC canonmates I'm chomping at the bit for. I mean, Charles would certainly love a Raven, since she's, you know, his sister, but as a fan, I can't help but think that Original Flavour Mystique is just ten times more interesting. I'd love to see someone like 616!Kitty Pryde to show up, though, or Storm, or any other of the awesome X-Ladies. Other than that, more threads with more people, though folks like Erik, Rogue, Wolverine, and Rachel especially. Maybe he can finally kiss someone at New Year's Eve. We shall see. |

DAMIAN WAYNE Batman and Robin DOB: 13 Oct Age: 11 Since 28 Sep 2011 ![]() |
I just can't bring myself to drop him. There's just too much potential that I want to dive into, and I knew going into this that he'd be difficult to integrate on the Island, so I can confidently say he is sticking around for the foreseeable future. I just need to be more on the ball when canonmates post EPs, because he's not the easiest voice to write at times and then five days pass and I'm too chicken to ask if folks don't mind a late tag-in. Anyway. I've established that he's hunting as kind of a stopgap for killing people, an avenue that'll be taken from him once Manhattan hits, so he's probably going to be a bit antsy for most of the month, even though he's got a city for his playground again. So there's that. Beyond that, I'm currently LOVING his thread with Bran, since that is exactly the kind of connection Damian needs right now, and I think his thread with Chase could probably go in an interesting direction for them both, since Damian is kind of a weird, homicidal mix of Molly and Gert. What I Want For Christmas: Dick Grayson. Just... Dick Grayson. More so than Bruce, I feel like his connection with Dick was the most humanizing relationship he had in canon. Dick grew to trust him in a way that Bruce still hasn't, and that meant more to Damian than anything. Like, he left his mom to be Grayson's Robin. Not to be with his dad. To be with his brother-figure. I just think that's so telling, man. Ugh, Damian. YOU GIVE ME FEELINGS. Barring that, more threads with Steph and Jason, since I haven't had those in a while, and other DC folks. More threads with Bran and Chase. More threads with kids! |
KATE BISHOP Hawkeye DOB: Age: 18 ETA maybe P1? ![]() |
Picture forthcoming should I actually end up playing her. But yeah, after... I don't know, about two years of wanting to reapp her, I'm finally getting my shit together and making it a reality. I need a teenage character to round out my roster, and after considering any number of non-Marvel options, I ultimately just kept coming back to Kate. She remains one of my all-time favourites and someone I connect to on a very visceral and inexplicable level, and with canon finally providing enough development to make playing her a different experience than the last time, everything's just coming together really nicely. Once everything's linked, I'll have easily made reqs for the month, so my intent's to reserve her on the 1st and hopefully app in January. She'll be coming from some point in Fraction's Hawkeye run for sure, though I'll wait for the next couple of issues to come out before I solidify any plans. I think it'd be fun to bring her in while she's disguised as Madame Masque, but we'll see, I guess~ Yay, Kate! Beyond her, I'm still considering Jennifer Walters, since I'm kind of itching to play a nice, well-liked character who takes everything in stride, but we'll see how I handle eight characters. |
And if you read all that, remember that Secret Santa Sign Ups are still underway!
