State of Me: I’m fighting through some health problems (my own and, increasingly, my family’s). Last year featured a pretty big creative slump for me that I’m still trying to shake off, but I think it’s helped to diversify my media intake. Different kinds of books and movies means different kinds of thoughts, and while I’m not quite in a place where I’m happy with my work, I’m at least in a place where I’m again happy enough to try.
Peter Parker: The guy doesn’t have any strong feelings about Vegas either way, but he’s great at poker and is buddies with Tony Stark, so presumably there will be BRO SHENANIGANS and nice suits. Particularly because he does have strong feelings about Valentine’s Day and wants to pretend that’s not even happening.
Playing Pete is weird because he’s really, really, incredibly angry at the world, but he’s gotten good enough at lying to himself that that doesn’t come across as much in his tags anymore. But it’s something I always keep in the back of my head.
Jamie Madrox: Loves Vegas. Might get an EP where he’s waiting for his pals Penn & Teller after their show. Got a pizza oven for NDPD that he’ll do something with soon. (Madrox’s Pizza Hut WILL HAPPEN.)
Bucky Barnes: Has a new WWII buddy, sorta! Might get an EP where he gets kicked out of a casino for cheating, since he’s been accused of as much in canon. (THERE’S NO EVIDENCE!) Kinda want to give him an upsetting item to coincide with the movie’s release, but there are so many options that I’d have to think on it. (I kind of like the idea of giving him the tank the Soviets’ kept him in, but I worry that that’s too similar to my idea for Damian.)
Matt Murdock: Had a baby! (Well, Ellen did the hard work, but still!) I’m gonna try and make an effort of tagging him around with the influx of new arrivals, in an effort to rebuild his social circle. I kind of like the idea of him trying to find a Catholic priest in Vegas to baptize his son, so that might be a thing.
Thor Odinson: Will be absolutely baffled as to why humans find slot machines fun, but might get sucked into a cycle regardless. Plans on a lot of drinking. Possible bro shenanigans with Loki. Thor is probably my best candidate to drunkenly marry to someone, if only because the wedding custom in Asgard is VERY DIFFERENT than a chapel in Vegas, so he’d probably just smile and nod and not really understand what was going on.
Charles Xavier: I’m making an effort to tag him around more, because he’s another one whose social circle more or less disappeared. HERE IS A MAN WHO IS GONNA REGRET HOW MUCH FUN HE HAS IN VEGAS, though, I am telling you that. He’ll be hosting a casual get-together for new Island arrivals on the 18th. This will be a public gathering post in the main community.
Damian Wayne: Is coping with the fact that another adult he liked has left the Island. Will probably spend the entire time in Vegas being kicked out of things because of his age. Won’t be a happy camper.
Kate Bishop: Is getting a new canon mate! So her Vegas time is gonna be spent dealing with the arrival of her ex, Eli, which promises to be explosive. Good times. She’s probably gonna need someone to talk her down after, so, you know, FRIENDS OF KATE BISHOP, BEWARE.
Future: Okay, so here’s the tough part. I really want to take advantage of the free app period. I was all set (and jazzed) about Fables’ Cinderella. And while I still love the character, I’m finding that her most recent arc in Fairest is rubbing me the wrong way for reasons I can’t quite articulate. Normally, a patch of bad canon isn’t a big deterrent to me (Pete is a testament to that), but Cindy’s appearances are so few and far between that I’m concerned I’ll lose interest. That, combined with the fact that the most interesting parts of her character are the ones that she’ll be working the hardest to conceal, and all of a sudden, I’m on the fence.
My other options are:
- Jennifer Walters, from She-Hulk.. I actually have most of an app written for Jen, but I’d have to do some speed reading to be comfortable enough with her canon to actually play her from the era I’d like — the glorious nineties. She’s fun, she’d have an interesting arc to pursue on the Island (namely, actively trying to get her powers back), and she has nothing to hide. She’s someone who can make friends easily, which is appealing, and would be all about organizing ladies events. My only reservation is that she is another superhero and good Lord, am I a one-trick pony or what?
- Root, from Person of Interest. I want to play her. A lot. She’s not my usual type of character at all — AT ALL — but I think she could have a really awesome arc on the Island… With enough planning. And there’s the rub, there. She’d be a disruptive character on a lot of levels and is basically primed to be a temp app down the line. Bringing her in now just to circumvent the app process is probably not a wise idea.
- Danny Blue, from Hustle. I’ve played Danny before, years ago, and was considering reapping him a while back (I have a partial app written already). I was never satisfied with the approach I took for Danny the last time around and always wanted a redo. Debuting him in Vegas would be icing on the cake, particular since I’d want to take him from a point where he was in Vegas. My one and only reservation for Danny is that I already play a shitload of dudes. I’m just lousy with dudes. So… yeah.
- Grant Ward, from Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and James “Rhodey” Rhodes from the Iron Man franchise. They’re lumped together for more or less the same reason: I already play Bucky. But man, either of these two would be SO MUCH FUN. I have the BEST idea for Rhodey’s debut, and I love his face, but between Pete and Bucky, he wouldn’t really offer me anything new. Ward provides a similar problem — he’d fill too similar a niche to Bucky. BUT STILL.
