Continued from here.
"Look, do you want to know or not?" I shoot back, not slowing down, not looking behind me to see if he's even still there, and not thinking about whether or not he's tired. I'm about as far from tired as it's possible to get. It's like I just downed the entire inventory of a Starbucks. I'm jittery. Wired. Paranoid. Less and less convinced by the second that I should be telling Johnny at all. Wolverine would be the smarter choice. He might be on every team ever, but he gets the whole needing to do something on your own -- even if that something includes not telling people he's dying.
Without missing a beat, I jump, catching hold of one of the lower hanging branches of the nearest sturdy looking tree, and I kick my legs in front of me, creating enough forward momentum to swing myself up and over, praying all the while that I don't get a splinter. I land in a crouch, not bothering to make any overt movement to hang on to the tree, mostly because I don't remember that I probably should. Yanno, I used to do my thinking on the top of the Empire State Building. It'd be the understatement of the year to say this is sort of a downgrade.

Date: 2009-09-26 07:55 am (UTC)Until the Skrull invasion, Norman Osborn hadn't exactly been someone Johnny knew or cared about. Afterwards, however, the idea of one guy who happened to get a lucky kill shot of the Skrull Queen having control of an agency to rival S.H.I.E.L.D. after being pardoned for being the Green Goblin...
Well, no, Johnny still didn't care too much about Osborn, but he was obviously big news to Pete, Goblin aside. He said Osborn's name like anyone in his own family would say Doom's.
"You think he's up to something?"

One wants to eat the planet, the other one wants to beat your brother-in-law 'cause of some longstanding grudge. Take away their powers and Galactus is just a really big guy and Doom's no worse than your typical bully at the science fair."
Okay, so I'm oversimplifying. Still, Doom's never been all that terrifying to me. Dude's crazy, yeah, but Norman makes him look downright well-adjusted.
"I've had every bone in my body broken. I've been shot, electrocuted, poisoned, burned, bitten, stabbed -- and that's only the shortlist. I've fought everything from mutants and gods to street hoods and my own costume. And I'm telling you, if it had been anyone else, I'd sit back with a nonexistent mai tai, kick up my feet, and point and laugh at the poor schmuck for days until the pity finally settled in."

Date: 2009-09-27 06:52 am (UTC)No, what Osborn got back home for that was Tony Stark's job. It was a pretty @#%$ed up universe at the best of times.

It very rarely happened.
